Core Muscles and Your Muscles
Core stability muscles, also called postural muscles, are the deep muscles in your abdomen, pelvis, and back. These muscles help hold you together, like a corset, rather than moving your trunk. Strong postural muscles help maintain a good posture, as well as provide strong foundations to stabilize your body. Without this, you’ll start to experience more pain or fatigue, and issues with balance and coordination.
Negative Effects of Core Weakness
Weak abdominal muscles play a part in overall core strength, which means that other muscles need to make up this area of the body as well. The muscles of your lower back, glutes, and even hips support core strength, too. The overall weakness in these muscles can bring about a number of issues, including:
- Poor posture
- Digestion issues
- Weakness in arms and legs
- Inability to hollow your stomach (breathe deeply)
